Impact investment firm Summa Equity has acquired a majority stake in the Bollegraaf Group, a provider of turnkey recycling solutions. This investment aligns with Summa Equity's investment vision of promoting resource efficiency. Summa Equity's 2.3 billion Euro investment fund will allow Bollegraaf, and North American long-term strategic partner and distributor Van Dyk, to continue to grow and develop innovative solutions for the circular economy.

Bollegraaf provides waste management companies worldwide with advanced sorting installations and machinery. Bollegraaf's technologies and solutions help reduce carbon footprints associated with material processing and recycling and aim to increase recycling rates.

Investing in the European circular economy

The acquisition of Bollegraaf was completed about a year after Summa presented their report "Investing in a circular and waste-free Europe." The report identified how a 230 billion Euro investment is needed by 2040 for new physical assets and infrastructure to enable the transition to a circular European economy.

Bertrand Camus, thematic partner at Summa says, "Bollegraaf is a key enabler in decarbonizing the materials system. As a leader in the recycling industry, we're proud to be working with them to continue the evolution of their innovative and circular solutions."

Investing from its 2.3 billion Euro Summa Equity Fund III, this acquisition leverages Summa's experience in enhancing portfolio companies' strategies to create long-term value while addressing critical global issues.

"Bollegraaf is a frontrunner in the recycling industry," says Edmund Tenfelde, CEO of Bollegraaf. "We are convinced that in partnership with Summa, Bollegraaf can accelerate further growth and drive the transition to a circular economy. Together with Summa, we can invest in innovation and advanced technologies and improve the solutions for our clients through strategic acquisitions. Summa's industry advisor network is also playing a crucial role in uncovering new opportunities to enhance our efforts."
