Terracycle, in partnership with OfficeMax Grand & Toy launch Canada's first K-cup (coffee insert) retailer recycling program
OfficeMax Grand & Toy, an affiliate of global office products provider Office Depot, Inc., and TerraCycle Canada today announced in August the launch of the nation’s first K-Cup® Packs retailer recycling pilot program.
According to OfficeMax Grand & Toy, K-Cup Packs have become one of their most popular coffee products due to their convenience. Until now, however, the coffee capsules have not been recyclable via retailers in Canada. OfficeMax Grand & Toy recognized this need and decided to partner with TerraCycle to offer a K-Cup Pack recycling system to their customers. This is a pilot project for customers in Southern Ontario; if the pilot program is successful it will then roll out nationally.
“At OfficeMax Grand & Toy, we believe that each and every person has a responsibility to do their part to better the natural environments that we all share. In line with this philosophy, OfficeMax Grand & Toy embraces environmental responsibility across every facet of our business, and we foster it through unique, progressive programs such as this,” said Serguei Tchertok, Sustainability Manager, OfficeMax Grand & Toy. “We launched this program based on the stakeholder feedback that we received from our associates, suppliers and customers who have identified waste and recycling as our most important sustainability issue,” he added.
The recycling system will come in three different sizes, small, medium and large, and the cost of the boxes will be $52.99, $96.99, and $136.99, respectively. The price of the box includes the cost of recycling via TerraCycle and the prepaid shipping label. When the box is full, customers can ship the box directly to TerraCycle for processing.
“TerraCycle is thrilled that OfficeMax Grand & Toy has partnered to launch Canada’s first K-Cup® Packs retailer recycling program, said Nina Purewal General Manager, TerraCycle Canada. “Their leadership in helping us eliminate waste speaks to their commitment to sustainability. We are excited to be able to offer a recycling solution to this waste stream to consumers.”
