Originally available on HG6000 and HG6000TX horizontal grinder models, Vermeer’s new chip drum is designed specifically for biofuel production, and is now available for the Tier 4i (Stage IIIB) HG4000 horizontal grinder. Suitable for everything from large land-clearing jobs to green-waste recycling, Tier 4i (Stage IIIB) HG4000, HG6000 and HG6000TX horizontal grinders include a number of features that make them ideal for a wide array of operators.
The all-new chip drum allows the grinder to produce a consistent-sized chip, necessary for many applications, including biofuel chip production. Plus, operators have the ability to modify chip size. With the ability to add or remove spacers, these chip drums can produce chip sizes ranging from 0.125 to 1.50 inches (0.3 to 3.8 cm) with 0.125-inch (0.3 cm) increment adjustments. Units are also designed for serviceability, with a number of the high wear areas of the drum protected by replaceable, hardened steel parts. For minimized operator cost, screws have replaced the need for Babbitt on the knives. A user can now simply adjust the knife via thread fasteners, quickly and safely rather than melting Babbitt.
“It’s a more robust, fully dedicated drum with knives, so you’re not switching back and forth as you would with a fuel chip attachment,” explains Vermeer’s Ryan Marshall.
