The Hammerhead horizontal grinder, introduced at this year’s Waste Expo by Screen USA, is designed as a low-cost, mid-sized heavy-duty portable grinder, ideal for small- to medium-sized producers. These units will efficiently handle everything from lumber scraps and landscape debris, to sheetrock and roofing shingles, and feature a 2.5 yd3 capacity hopper, and a 4.5-foot-wide feeder with a variable direction belt conveyor.
Other key features include a self-adjusting feed wheel infeed with a 17- by 54-inch throat, and an 8.5-foot discharge height with a magnetic head pulley. The grinder on these units is a rotor mill, with 30 carbide teeth and a torque limiter, and the engine is a 140-hp John Deere diesel.
“Our dealers have been asking for a medium-sized wood grinder for years, and we have delivered an awesome machine for an unbelievable price,” said Rick Cohen, Screen USA’s President. According to the company, the 14,500-pound (gross weight) Hammerhead can be pulled behind a one-ton truck, has been severely tested grinding a wide range of materials and is “100 percent ready for open waters.”
